Rachel is a thoughtful teacher who is scrupulous in creating an environment both warm and rigorous for a diverse group. The culture of this class has been incredibly helpful for me in working through the fear that has held me back from writing for decades, and I am truly grateful to have access to it.

Rachel is phenomenal at encouraging her writers to dig deeper into the emotional genesis of a particular story. Her strength is slowing her students down, highlighting areas where things are touched on yet not fully developed, and encouraging the more fulfilling, but incredibly more difficult, process of exploring that. I found her ability to highlight certain things that I overlooked wonderful. Additionally, I loved her ability to focus in on the language and how each word contributes to the overall tone and narrative.
